NaBloPoMo ~ Day 11

Sometimes I wish I could just step away from all the technology in my life. Seriously.

Take today, for instance. My new-ish (6 months!) laptop is on the fritz. It needs a repair that requires I mail it into a service center. No problem, except I didn't keep the box. (Well, actually I did keep the box until about a month ago, when I decided to recycle all the empty boxes in the garage to make room for the new freezer! Oops....) So, they have to send me a new box and packing materials. I spoke with tech support on Wednesday of last week. The box should have been here on Monday. It did not arrive. So I expected it today. Still no box. I called them. They are closed. It is Veteran's Day. Of course! So, I will wait until tomorrow.

In the meantime, I figure I'll configure the old laptop for wireless internet. No biggie, right? Done it a meeeeeelion times. Literally. Try to start the laptop and it won't boot. Wind up having to do a system restore, after several hours of circular errors. No problem ~ got it restored and clean and ready to go. Wait! No drivers for the video card or for the wireless card! Yay! Download those to he desktop and get them installed on the laptop. Now we're cooking with fire! Except ~ it's slow. As Christmas in July. Reallllly slllllloooooooowwwwwwwww. I call tech support. (Why do I do this?) and am told that everything looks fine on their end. They ping the machine and get replies on all test packets. Surprisingly enough, when I ping it here, I have a 50% - 100% packet loss. Of course. Fail!

It's just after 10 PM, and virtually my entire day has been spent jacking around with two laptops. I still have limited connectivity on the old laptop and no screen on the new one. So I'm at the desktop, which is running Vista, which I absolutely LOATHE. Next computer I buy? Is gonna be a Mac. Take that, Windows. You suck. Also Compaq and IBM and Lenovo. You all suck. So there. Nyah!

Gonna hit publish, change a diaper, and go watch some DVR'd Dexter. Good night!
